Verse for Technophobes, by Gillian Southgate

TO MY COMPUTER

How do I hate thee?  Let me count the ways.
I hate the way you come up ‘undefined’
Or stop my password when I go online.
I really hate the way you say ‘hooray’
When junk mail fails to register as mine.
I hate the silly stories on the screen -
Who cares who Harry’s dating or he’s not?
I do not want to know where cars are cheap
Or if Obama’s Irish, Greek, or what.
I never Tweet, or Twitter, never go
To Facebook.  I just want to use
You like a reference book and writing tool.
But then, I am not young, and you
Somehow detect this, and I feel a fool.
